What are examples of opposites?

Learning about opposites and understanding different examples of opposites is a basic concept for young children.  For example, wet is the opposite of dry or stop is the opposite of go.  When you are teaching the concept of opposites it is important to engage all of your child's senses. Use flash cards to demonstrate an opposite and then find how to reinforce the idea actively with your child through objects or games.  Some of the opposite concepts that early learners can understand are big/small, inside/outside, slow/fast, hot/cold, over/under, or happy/sad.  There are many opposites that your child will encounter and understanding this concept will help them to communicate more clearly about the world around them.
