Why is rhyming important for preschoolers?

Rhyming is an important step toward developing fluency in preschool students. When preschoolers learn about rhyming, they are exposed to how words can sound the same but be spelled differently.  They can practice word recognition and even work on basic spelling with simple words. Understanding how to rhyme and the sounds of different words is a critical part of reading fluency.
