How do children learn number concepts?

Learning number concepts is important for children even before they enter their school age years. Children learn and develop at their own pace but they can begin to develop number fluency at a young age.  Help them count objects they see every day.  Sing counting songs with your child and work with colorful flash cards as you introduce numbers.  Another way to help your child learn number concepts is by having them touch objects.  By using all of their senses and creating a fun, positive environment, you child will be on their way to number fluency. For a fun game, lay your flash cards on the floor around the room.  Next, call out a number, your child can "race" to that flash card.
